Book presentation "Fonderia Fonti Nebiolo, 1878-1978. Nuovi Studi Critici”

May 25, 2024, 6:00 pm @ ADI Design Museum, Piazza Compasso d'Oro, 1, Milan

Within the framework of Biennale Internazionale Grafica (BIG), a widespread festival dedicated to communication design and visual cultures, James Clough and Riccardo De Franceschi from Nebiolo History Project present "Fonderia Fonti Nebiolo, 1878-1978. Nuovi Studi Critici" (Lazy Dog Press, 2023).

The Società Nebiolo di Torino was Italy's most important typeface foundry. Between the 1930s and 1970s, its art studio designed typefaces that marked the history of Italian graphic design and beyond.

An initial critical evaluation of the company's historical heritage, made difficult by the dispersion of the archives, was addressed on September 2021 in Turin at the international conference "Fonderia Caratteri Nebiolo, 1878-1978. Nuovi Studi Citici" curated by Nebiolo History Project (composed of Associate Professor of the Department of Design Alessandro Colizzi, Riccardo Olocco, James Clough, Riccardo De Franceschi, Marta Bernstein, and Massimo Gonzato).

Aimed at scholars, graphic designers, typographers, and typophiles, the publication is rich in images and well-documented evidence. It collects original language contributions from Italian and foreign speakers and is intended to give new impetus to historical research on Nebiolo Society of Turin, Italy’s most important typeface foundry, and on its heritage.
