The PoliMi Sailing Team, led by Arianna Bionda and Andrea Ratti, won the SuMoth Challenge 2026, securing the Overall Winner title for the third consecutive year and becoming the first team in the history of the competition to achieve this milestone.
Thanks to the performance of the refitted prototype Altea 2.0, the team achieved outstanding results throughout the different stages of the competition:
- 1st place – Stage 1 (UPG Category)
- 1st place – Stage 2
- 4th place – Stage 3
The combined scores achieved across all three stages allowed the PoliMi Sailing Team to once again claim the title of SuMoth Challenge 2026 Overall Winner.
The race week was particularly intense and marked by a highly competitive environment. In recent years, the SuMoth Challenge has experienced significant growth both in the number of participating teams and in the technical quality of the projects presented, making the competition increasingly demanding.
This achievement represents the culmination of months of work involving design, boatyard activities, technical development, and on-water testing. Altea 2.0 demonstrated the effectiveness of the team’s refit strategy, enabling them to secure first place in both Stage 1, dedicated to the refit project, and Stage 2, focused on speed tests and manufacturing processes. From a technical perspective, the project confirmed the soundness of the design choices implemented during the prototype’s refit.
Winning the SuMoth Challenge 2026 is an important recognition of the work carried out by the students of the PoliMi Sailing Team and represents another significant step forward in the project’s ongoing development and growth.
