Remote Places, Public Spaces. The story of creative works with ten small communities edited by Davide Fassi, Annalinda De Rosa, Inge Eller, and Michael Dumiak, published by Birkhäuser, 2024.
The book brings together inspiring stories of how design can support small communities in regenerating public spaces in areas that suffer from “relational remoteness”. Filled with insights from ten European remote communities and the researchers’ final scientific reflections, it is a testament to the power of collaboration and the creative spirit in fostering vibrant public spaces through social innovation and participatory design.
The book is an output of the research project “Human Cities/SMOTIES - Creative works with small and remote places” (2020/24), funded by the Creative Europe program.
The SMOTIES network is a partnership of ten design universities, research centers, creative agencies, and national associations. Each partner selected a small and remote place in their country to benefit from the design of cultural and creative regenerations within public spaces and in collaboration with local stakeholders.
