ReverseLab: the contemporary art transforms the San Vittore Prison into a space of rehabilitation and creativity

Crowdfunding for research

ReverseLab is a project that experiments with the encounter between contemporary art and the San Vittore Prison to breathe new life into the basement of the prison's first ray, closed in the second half of the 1980s. A place, now uninhabitable, that is being modified to set up work spaces and ensure the required safety for opening to the public.

The space will house the temporary exhibition envisaged by the project and become a permanent exhibition area dedicated to a " Space of Memory " that tells the story and role of the San Vittore prison. A long-term transformation path supported by the dialogue between State, Prison, City and University, realized with the contribution of Fondazione di Comunità Milano, which supports socially useful interventions for more than 2 million citizens of Milan and is part of the network of 16 territorial foundations established by Fondazione Cariplo.

The project is part of a decade-long process of exchange and research between the regional penitentiary administrative system, detention institutions and the Politecnico di Milano, through the Laboratorio Carcere research group of the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies and the Department of Design. The PAC Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea is involved for artistic direction.

Fondazione di Comunità Milano has launched crowdfunding to enable the ReverseLab project to obtain a larger final contribution. The minimum goal is €3,000 by December 1. Funds raised by this date will be tripled by Fondazione di Comunità.
