SMOTIES Toolbox. Design tools for the creative transformation of public spaces in small and remote places edited by Valentina Auricchio, Annalinda De Rosa, Davide Fassi, Vanessa Monna, Paola Russo, Birgir Johannsson, Josie King, Astrid Lelarge, Pall Líndal, and Frank van Hasselt, published by Birkhäuser, 2025.
The book is an output of the research project “Human Cities/Smoties - Creative works with small and remote places” (2020/24), funded by the Creative Europe program.
Fifteen tools, organized into six toolkits, designed to guide project leaders in transforming remote areas into more livable spaces by engaging residents and stakeholders in developing cultural and creative activities. These toolkits support creative teams of citizens, public and private institutions, and local governments in co-creating initiatives that enhance the well-being of small and remote communities.
This volume was produced within the framework of the Dipartimenti di Eccellenza initiative, for which the Department was selected by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) with the project "Design for Systemic Change".
