VIII International Congress “Synaesthesia: Science and Art”

Visual Synesthesia

October 23-25, 2025, Alcalá la Real & University of Granada, Spain.

For its 20th anniversary, the Artecittà International Foundation is organizing a special 8th edition of the International Congress “Synaesthesia: Science and Art”, in collaboration with the University of Granada and Politecnico di Milano. The event will take place from October 23 to 25, 2025, in Alcalá la Real (Convento de la Trinidad) and at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Granada.

The congress represents an international reference point exploring the phenomenon of synesthesia — the authentic and neurological union of the senses — through an interdisciplinary approach integrating neuroscience, art, music, design, language, philosophy, and technology.

Over the course of twenty years, the Artecittà Foundation has promoted a global network of research and experimentation by organizing conferences, workshops, and exhibitions that bring together scientists, artists, and creatives from around the world. This special edition aims to review current knowledge and practical applications of synesthesia, highlighting its fundamental role in artistic and scientific innovation, as well as in educational and cultural practices.

Parallel to the congress, the exhibition "MuVi7 – International Exhibition of Video on Synesthesia and Visual Music" will be held at the Convento Capuchinos and Palacio Abacial. The exhibition is entirely dedicated to video artworks exploring the relationships between music, images, and synesthetic perception.

Dina Riccò, Associate Professor in the Department of Design, will participate as Co-chair and Chair for their respective events.

The MuVi7 promo video and the full conference program are available.
