Worth Reading. Indie Magazines for Social Change

Didactic exhibition

October 23, 2026, from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm, Edicola Castello, via Paleocapa, Milan

Worth Reading. Indie Magazines for Social Change, part of the programme of events of the Biennale della Grafica, presents a selection of independent magazines designed by students of the Complex Artefacts and Systems Design Studio (C1), part of the first year of the Master’s Degree Programme in Communication Design at Politecnico di Milano. The exhibition marks ten years since the Studio was first established, bringing together projects that reflect a teaching and design practice in which publishing is understood as a space for research, experimentation, and interpretation of the present.

Hosted in a historic newsstand in the centre of Milan, the exhibition approaches the independent magazine as a device for editorial translation: a design space in which themes, languages, and perspectives are interpreted, selected, and reorganized through the interaction of content, visual forms, and reading practices. Editorial design thus becomes a form of synthesis and cultural mediation, capable of giving visibility and meaning to issues that deserve to be read, understood, and shared.

The nine projects address socially and culturally relevant issues, reaffirming the role of the independent magazine as a space for research, dialogue, and participation: an artefact capable of translating the complexity of the present into editorial forms that generate interpretations, connections, and new forms of awareness.
