A young woman and a child read an illustrated book together on a vertical stand, surrounded by colorful pillows in a cozy educational setting. Next to the scene is the "SCALE" logo, featuring black lettering intertwined with gold circuit-like lines and a road-shaped arrow pointing upwards.

The SCALE project (Upscaling the Deployment of Cooperative IntelligentTransport Systems in Europe), funded under the CEF Digitalprogramme, aims to accelerate the large-scale adoption of C-ITS (Cooperative IntelligentTransport Systems) across Europe and support the transitiontowards a new generation of smart road transport and mobility services.

Through10 representativeEuropean Pilot and OperationSites, SCALE willevaluateboth mature C-ITS services and emerging use cases. The project’sevaluationfocuses on four key global challenges: technological innovation, environmentalsustainability, road safety and public health, and socio-economic impacts. Itaims to overcomepersistentbarriersthathave so far hindered the industrialisation of the C-ITS ecosystem in Europe.

The project consortium bringstogether key mobility stakeholders, including industrial players, road infrastructure managers, public authorities, and academic institutions. This strong network will:

  • Developtechnological tools and decision-making models to facilitate C-ITS adoption;
  • Assess the technical and socio-economic impact of C-ITS implementation in variousmobilitycontexts;
  • Promotereplicability and scalability of testedsolutionsthroughout the EU.

Implemented in synergy with the C-Roads Platform, SCALE ensures the coordinatedcontribution of Europeanactors to the cooperative mobilityecosystem. The project directlycontributes to the EU Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, and indirectly supports the European Green Deal, the Vision Zero strategy, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 9 – Industry and innovation, SDG 11 – Sustainable cities and communities, SDG 13 – Climate action).
