Circular Food System Lab (CFS Lab)

Opening Event

Circular Food System Lab is a new multidisciplinary Living Lab for the Twin Transition of Food Systems at Politecnico di Milano.

Conceived by the Department of Design in collaboration with the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electronics, Information, and Bioengineering, the lab is led by Professor Stefano Maffei as Scientific Coordinator and Professor Massimo Bianchini as Lab Manager.

The Design Module, based at Polifactory, focuses on research, design, and prototyping of interactive product-service solutions for the circular and digital transformation of Food Systems in metropolitan, urban, and peri-urban contexts.

Starting in early 2025, CFS Lab will drive research and social initiatives across key thematic areas:

  • Competitive research on circular Food Systems
  • Innovation consulting for businesses and institutions
  • Development and support for Food System start-ups
  • Public engagement for Food System circularity

The Opening Event will be a unique opportunity to visit the Design Module spaces and join a presentation on the Lab’s vision and the first year of initiatives.

Program:
5:00–6:00 pm | Open Lab and free access to the Design Module spaces of the CFS Lab
6:00–6:35 pm | CFS Lab Opening Ceremony

  • Welcome address, introduction of the involved institutions and the CFS Lab staff;
  • Project overview, presentation of the research areas and first-year pilot activities, with talks by Stefano Maffei, Massimo Bianchini, Antonio Capone, and Giorgio Colombo;

6:35–7:30 pm | Refreshments and Networking
