Service Innovation Research

The Service Innovation Research group investigates the relationship between design, service research and service innovation. Activities are aimed at investigating various aspects of innovation in and around services, using collaborative approaches. This method combines a theoretical dimension with a practical one, adopting systemic and future-oriented perspectives to address global challenges affecting both public and private service systems.

The group's activities include:

  • ethnographic research activities
  • action-research activities
  • tools for strategic service design
  • mapping and visualisation of complex systems and processes
  • service evaluation

The lines of research are linked to themes at the intersection of social, economic and environmental aspects. In particular:

  • social innovation and urban development
  • systems and futures thinking
  • food systems and circular product-service approaches
  • patient-driven innovation

In the field of training, the SIR promotes experimental approaches aimed at linking research and practice, involving actors from public administration, consulting agencies, profit and non-profit organisations.
