R-evolve - Roll out Systemic Change to evolve the Furniture Industry towards CE through the Implementation of innovative Circular Business Models, Material & Design Strategies, and the Digital Product Passport.

Website's Project

The R-evolve project aims to transform the European furniture industry towards circular economy models, through the adoption of systemic strategies and the implementation of innovative digital tools. The initiative is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.

R-evolve seeks to provide structured support to companies in the sector to accelerate the transition towards circular business models, sustainable materials, and digital product traceability.
The project’s vision is to enable the European furniture industry to combine innovation, sustainability, and economic competitiveness.

The project addresses a pressing need: the European furniture industry must evolve to remain competitive in a context where costs, regulations, and consumer preferences are rapidly changing.

Main Activities

  • Analyse the state of the art and identify the main challenges faced by the furniture sector in adopting circular economy principles.
  • Develop circular business models and servitization strategies for companies in the sector.
  • Research and develop innovative and sustainable materials for the furniture industry.
  • Implement and test the Digital Product Passport (DPP) to enhance product traceability and lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to validate results and facilitate the dissemination of developed solutions.

Expected Results

  • Based on pilot project outcomes, guidelines, manuals, and tailored training materials will be developed to help companies improve the circularity of their products and processes.
  • Over 400 companies will gain awareness of their circular economy maturity level and identify feasible circular strategies for their operations.
  • 50 companies will receive personalized consultancy from consortium partners to concretely implement the developed system-product innovations (including DPP, CEBM, and circular design strategies).
  • A Community of Practice (CoP) will be established to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders across the circular and sustainable furniture value chain.
